    AGILE ADOPTION IN INVESTMENT BANKS

    Many companies and organizations, regardless of industries, countries, size, and cultures, are in the process of transiting from traditional project management methods to Agile. When it comes to financial industry, today’s investment banks, face more unstable market conditions, faster changes of worldwide politics, economies and technologies, stricter regulations, and greater pressure to meet customers’ requirements and sustain revenue growth. Investment banks are usually full-service global financial institutions, which provide advisory and financing banking services, as well as sales, market making, and research on financial products. Therefore, investment banks are in great need to transform from traditional PM concepts to Agile. However, a big issue in investment banks is the lack of applying Agile. To address this issue, this thesis is focusing on “what is the current status of adopting Agile in investment banks”, “why investment banks have not fully adopted Agile”, “why investment banks should adopt Agile methodology” and “how to apply agile in investment banks”. The research of this thesis will be conducted using two main approaches. To answer the first three questions mentioned above, two main approaches, researching the existing articles and questionnaire survey among the investment banks employees, will be used. Based on the findings and conclusions of the research and the survey, recommendations will be provided to address how investment banks can successfully apply Agile within the organization. The results of the research will be able to provide a guidance for investment banks on how to smoothly transit from traditional project management methods to Agile, and help to bring more attention to this topic and stimulate more related research in the future

    Evaluation of anxiolytic potential of Linum usitatissimum oil in wistar rats

    The objective of the present study was to evaluate the anxiolytic potential of the Linum usitatissimum (Flax seed) oil (5ml and 2.5ml/kg) in wistar rats by using Elevated plus maze (EPM) model and 5ml and 10 ml/kg in Lithium induced head twitches model. Experiments were carried out on white inbred Wistar rats (180-200 g). The efficacy of the oil at both the animal models was compared with the standard anxiolytic drugs Diazepam (0.5 mg/kg). The result showed that the oil significantly increased the number of entries and time spent in the open arm in the elevated plus maze. Similarly in Lithium induced head twitches model administration of oil decreases the no. of head twitches. Present study confirms that the extract showed significant anxiolytic activity at both dose levels which is comparable with standard anxiolytic Diazepam

    Discovery of highly spin-polarized conducting surface states in the strong spin-orbit coupling semiconductor Sb2_2Se3_3

    Majority of the A2_2B3_3 type chalcogenide systems with strong spin-orbit coupling, like Bi2_2Se3_3, Bi2_2Te3_3 and Sb2_2Te3_3 etc., are topological insulators. One important exception is Sb2_2Se3_3, where a topological non-trivial phase was argued to be possible under ambient conditions, but such a phase could be detected to exist only under pressure. In this Letter, we show that like Bi2_2Se3_3, Sb2_2Se3_3, displays generation of highly spin-polarized current under mesoscopic superconducting point contacts as measured by point contact Andreev reflection spectroscopy. In addition, we observe a large negative and anisotropic magnetoresistance in Sb2_2Se3_3, when the field is rotated in the basal plane. However, unlike in Bi2_2Se3_3, in case of Sb2_2Se3_3 a prominent quasiparticle interference (QPI) pattern around the defects could be obtained in STM conductance imaging. Thus, our experiments indicate that Sb2_2Se3_3 is a regular band insulator under ambient conditions, but due to it's high spin-orbit coupling, non-trivial spin-texture exists on the surface and the system could be on the verge of a topological insulator phase.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, supplemental material not include

    COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and attitude toward booster doses among US healthcare workers

    Vaccine reluctance among healthcare workers (HCW) can have widespread negative ramifications, including modeling behavior for the general population and challenges with maintaining a healthy workforce so we can respond to a resurgence of the pandemic. We previously reported that only one-third of HCW were willing to take the vaccine as soon as it became available prior to its Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). Here, we re-examine the attitude toward COVID-19 vaccines among HCW several months after the vaccines have been made widely available. In this study, only 7.9% (n = 107) of respondents were hesitant to take the first or second dose of the vaccine. Younger age (18-40 years) and lower level of education attainment (GED or less) were associated with higher vaccine hesitancy, whereas self-identified Asian racial identity was associated with greater acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination. Among the vaccine-hesitant group, more respondents noted mistrust of regulatory authorities (45.3%), government (48.6%), and pharmaceutical companies (50%) than mistrust of doctors (25.4%). Nearly two-thirds of respondents were concerned that vaccination may be ineffective against new strains and booster doses may be required; however, vaccine-hesitant respondents\u27 acceptance of a hypothetical booster dose was only 14.3%. Overall, vaccine hesitancy was observed to have demographic predictors similar to those previously reported; the hesitancy of some US HCW to receive booster doses may reflect a general hesitancy to receive other forms of vaccination

    Role of cytokine in malignant T-cell metabolism and subsequent alternation in T-cell tumor microenvironment

    T cells are an important component of adaptive immunity and T-cell-derived lymphomas are very complex due to many functional sub-types and functional elasticity of T-cells. As with other tumors, tissues specific factors are crucial in the development of T-cell lymphomas. In addition to neoplastic cells, T- cell lymphomas consist of a tumor micro-environment composed of normal cells and stroma. Numerous studies established the qualitative and quantitative differences between the tumor microenvironment and normal cell surroundings. Interaction between the various component of the tumor microenvironment is crucial since tumor cells can change the microenvironment and vice versa. In normal T-cell development, T-cells must respond to various stimulants deferentially and during these courses of adaptation. T-cells undergo various metabolic alterations. From the stage of quiescence to attention of fully active form T-cells undergoes various stage in terms of metabolic activity. Predominantly quiescent T-cells have ATP-generating metabolism while during the proliferative stage, their metabolism tilted towards the growth-promoting pathways. In addition to this, a functionally different subset of T-cells requires to activate the different metabolic pathways, and consequently, this regulation of the metabolic pathway control activation and function of T-cells. So, it is obvious that dynamic, and well-regulated metabolic pathways are important for the normal functioning of T-cells and their interaction with the microenvironment. There are various cell signaling mechanisms of metabolism are involved in this regulation and more and more studies have suggested the involvement of additional signaling in the development of the overall metabolic phenotype of T cells. These important signaling mediators include cytokines and hormones. The impact and role of these mediators especially the cytokines on the interplay between T-cell metabolism and the interaction of T-cells with their micro-environments in the context of T-cells lymphomas are discussed in this review article

    AmBisome Monotherapy and Combination AmBisome-Miltefosine Therapy for the Treatment of Visceral Leishmaniasis in Patients Coinfected With Human Immunodeficiency Virus in India: A Randomized Open-Label, Parallel-Arm, Phase 3 Trial.

    BACKGROUND: Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) presents an increasingly important patient cohort in areas where both infections are endemic. Evidence for treatment is sparce, with no high-quality studies from the Indian subcontinent. METHODS: This is a randomized, open-label, parallel-arm, phase 3 trial conducted within a single hospital in Patna, India. One hundred and fifty patients aged ≥18 years with serologically confirmed HIV and parasitologically confirmed VL were randomly allocated to 1 of 2 treatment arms, either a total 40 mg/kg intravenous liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome; Gilead Pharmaceuticals) administered in 8 equal doses over 24 days or a total 30 mg/kg intravenous AmBisome administered in 6 equal doses given concomitantly with a total 1.4 g oral miltefosine administered through 2 daily doses of 50 mg over 14 days. The primary outcome was intention-to-treat relapse-free survival at day 210, defined as absence of signs and symptoms of VL or, if symptomatic, negative parasitological investigations. RESULTS: Among 243 patients assessed for eligibility, 150 were recruited between 2 January 2017 and 5 April 2018, with no loss to follow-up. Relapse-free survival at day 210 was 85% (64/75; 95% CI, 77-100%) in the monotherapy arm, and 96%, (72/75; 90-100%) in the combination arm. Nineteen percent (28/150) were infected with concurrent tuberculosis, divided equally between arms. Excluding those with concurrent tuberculosis, relapse-free survival at day 210 was 90% (55/61; 82-100%) in the monotherapy and 97% (59/61; 91-100%) in the combination therapy arm. Serious adverse events were uncommon and similar in each arm. CONCLUSIONS: Combination therapy appears to be safe, well tolerated, and effective, and halves treatment duration of current recommendations.
